April is Upon Us

April is Upon Us

It’s hard to believe that April is upon us.  Out of all the months of the year, April seems like it is the “in-between” month.  By that I mean its officially “spring”, but the weather still is rainy, wet, and kind of depressing and it’s not quite “summer” yet.  You know what I mean.  But April really is a great month and there are lots of reason why April shines!!  We get to celebrate warmer weather, longer days, and we get to celebrate Easter!  It’s also the first full month of Spring and most people (besides me) are filled with a little more optimism and joy.

What other reason is April a fantastic month!? What are some of Aprils little known facts? Well, did you know that April is known by different names?  Aprills means “to open“, which the Romans thought was a good fit for April considering this is the month when the trees and flowers begin to bloom. April is also derived from the Latin word aperit which also means “to open”. The Greeks named April Aphros, which is named after Aphrodite, the Greek Goddess of Love.   Who knew right?  AND, there are three holidays in April.  There is April Fool’s Day, Easter, and Earth Day. That is a lot of holidays for one month, most have only one or none.   April is just extra special!

Fall at Marshall County Co-Op

The flowers of April are sweet peas and daisies, which I find are exceptionally simple yet beautiful.  April is also the time for continuing your garden plans as well. At the Marshall County Co-op, we can provide you with all the gardening tips and advice that you may need.  We deal with the experienced “gardeners” and of course the brand-new “beginner” gardeners!  Just stop in and see us.  We have most supplies you may need to help your garden flourish!  From fertilizers, seeds, and gloves to the garden tools you may need.  And so much more.  Why bother going to the big box stores when we have it locally at the Marshall County Co-op and we guarantee we know about the subject you may be asking.

You also can also find a valuable resource of information in the 2022 West Virginia University Extension Service Garden Calendar which can be found here as well: Calendar

Finally, April is also one when America’s favorite past time starts up.  The smell of the dirt, the crack of the bats, the cheering of the crowd.  It’s good ole baseball season finally and I couldn’t be more thrilled.  Not only do I adore the game, but I also love the whole aspect of the ballpark.  Fans chanting and singing. Kids laughing and hanging with their family.  And of course, those Hot dogs wrapped in foil….they just taste so darn good.  Then there’s the Nachos and Cheese, popcorn and of course my favorite adult beverage: a nice, cold beer.

Ahh…I have missed you so much baseball.

April is the kindest month. April gets you out of your head and out working in the garden.
