March…Let the “Madness” Begin!

March…Let the “Madness” Begin!

You may have heard the saying “If March comes in like a lion, it will go out like a lamb.” But where does this come from?  According to the Farmers’ Almanac, the weather folklore stems from ancestral beliefs in balance, meaning if the weather at the start of March was bad (roaring, like a roaring lion), the month should end with good weather (gentle, like a lamb).  But is this always true??  I remember some March’s coming in like a lion and going out like a lion!  All I can say is I hope it comes in like a Lion, gets all the nasty, cold weather over with before the end of the month, and peacefully and gently goes out like a lamb!  I think we are all ready for some Spring weather!

While reviewing the calendar of March, I was surprised at all that is going on this month!  WOW!  What a jam-packed month full of entertainment, holidays and fun!

We have the famous March Madness Basketball Games happening this month, with the schedule looking something like this:

Selection Sunday: March 17

First Four: March 19-20

First round: March 21-22

Second round: March 23-24

Sweet 16: March 28-29

Elite Eight: March 30-31

Final Four: Saturday, April 6 at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona

NCAA championship game: Monday, April 8 at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona

On Sunday, March 10, it’s that time of the year again when we get daylight longer!  It’s finally Daylight Savings Time!  We know now that we are headed in the right direction by allowing us more daylight time to do all things we need to do to prepare for Spring, which also arrives in March on the 19 of this month!

On March 17, it’s time to drink some Green Beer and eat some delicious, corned beef hash and celebrate the Luck of the Irish on St. Patrick’s Day!

March 28 is every Baseball lover’s favorite day… Major League Baseball opening day!!  It’s the start of baseball season!  Who doesn’t love a good baseball game?  And we are all familiar with that baseball “smell”.   You know, dirt, grass, popcorn, and hotdog aromas all rolled into one familiar smell. The smell of baseball.   Such a great family fun event too!

March 24 is Palm Sunday, March 29 is Good Friday and Easter is celebrated on March 31.

In addition to all else that is going on, it’s also time to get geared up for your summer garden planting!  As always, if this is something new to you and you are not sure what to do, make sure you stop by the Marshall County Co-op and ask one of their store associates for some tips, suggestions or just plain guidance.  In addition, they can provide you the tools that you will need to prepare your soil, plant your seeds, and more.

And if you are an experienced gardener, the Co-op is your place for ALL your gardening needs.

March…Let the “madness” begin!
