Our Most Exciting Month!

Welcome to the most exciting month for all the plant loving, garden growing, flower people out there!  May is certainly your time!   Every May,  the  Marshall County Co-op comes alive with greenery, bright beautiful colors and smells of soil and fertilizers! The season we have waited all winter for has arrived!  May is known for many things……most importantly Mother’s Day and Memorial Day.  At the Marshall County Co-op, we celebrate both!  Every year we celebrate the beginning of garden and flower season with our annual Mother’s Day Flower and more event!  This weeklong event draws people from all over to...

April is Upon Us

April is Upon Us

It’s hard to believe that April is upon us.  Out of all the months of the year, April seems like it is the “in-between” month.  By that I mean its officially “spring”, but the weather still is rainy, wet, and kind of depressing and it’s not quite “summer” yet.  You know what I mean.  But April really is a great month and there are lots of reason why April shines!!  We get to celebrate warmer weather, longer days, and we get to celebrate Easter!  It’s also the first full month of Spring and most people (besides me) are filled with...

Spring is Coming this Month

Spring is Coming this Month

The big event is coming!!!  The big event is coming!  What big event am I talking about?  SPRING.  The word most people have been talking about and waiting for since Winter took over December 21st, 2021.  After being brutalized by cold temperatures, lots of snow and record-breaking ice storms, Spring is a welcome relief to all of us.   The thought of warmer, bearable temperatures along with being able to once again have a life outside of your home, brings joy to most people.  The thought of returning your outdoor furniture to their spring/summer homes brings smiles to our faces.  The...

I Cannot Tell a Lie

I Cannot Tell a Lie

During the month of February, we celebrate Presidents Day (what the holiday is referred to,  however; the federal holiday is officially called “Washington’s Birthday”).  I wanted to focus on a legend that I always heard growing up about George Washington. The legend is that George Washington chopped down a cherry tree when he was just 6 years old.  When his dad confronted him about it, he supposedly said “I cannot tell a lie.  I did it with my hatchet.”  Well, the jokes on us, since Washington didn’t say this at all.  This tale was made up by Parson Mason Weems...

The New Year begins…..

The New Year begins…..

Happy New Year to all!  Everyone from the Marshall County Co-Op is geared up for the new year.  It’s time for a fresh, new start and we are excited. So, how do you plan on making 2022 better than 2021?  Some people will make “resolutions” that are extreme, such as losing a lot of weight in a short period of time or making unrealistic goals to attend the gym 7 days a week, quitting smoking or saving money. Why not try something new for the New Year? How about making some goals for your annual summer garden?  I know, I...

New Seasonal Items

New Seasonal Items

The Marshall County Co-op amazes me.  When I think of the Co-op, I automatically think of plants, flowers, propane, and farming products.  To me, that’s what they have and they have the best of it.  Especially their Propane plans.  But I tell you what, if you ever get a chance, you should take a tour of the Marshall County Co-op. With each season, you’ll find new and seasonal related items at this magical place.    Just recently I decided to take a tour just to see all it has to offer.  I love unique and different items that you don’t find...

Turning on the Heat!!

Turning on the Heat!!

It’s that time of the year again when it’s time to turn on the heat!  The air conditioner that worked so hard over this past summer can finally take a well-deserved rest and your furnace can now take over to keep you warm for the next several months.  If you use propane as your heat source, we want you to know that here at the Southern States Marshall County Co-op, we are here for you.   Southern States is one of the top 10 suppliers of propane gas in the country and is the local, smart, reliable source for all your propane needs.  ...

The Three P’s

The Three P’s

I’d like to talk a little today about three very important items that the Marshall County Co-op is especially proud to offer to their local consumers.  The first P is :  PROPANE It’s October, which means the days of air conditioning and sweltering heat and humidity are over.  Making their annual comeback are sweaters, hoodies and sweatshirts.  And sooner than later, coats.  Wood burners and furnaces are being turned on.  Which means it’s Propane time.  Yes, propane is used year-round in campers, to fuel your grill, to heat your water and so much more, but now we need to focus...

Fruits, Vegetables, Plants, and BUGS

Fruits, Vegetables, Plants, and BUGS

As we enter July, summer is in full swing!  July is probably one of my favorite times of the year, minus the heat that is.  Unless I am floating in a pool, ocean or the lake, I am not a big fan of heat.  Give me nice, 70–75-degree days anytime.  But of course, the heat is necessary, especially if you are a farmer or a gardener.  The heat helps your vegetables and fruits flourish.  Farmers Markets are in full swing, overflowing with summers abundance of crops!!!  Eating fresh grown veggies and fruits is another one of the reasons I love...

June is a great month and we explore some of the reasons why we think June is one of the best months of the year.
